REED CAGES:
MODIFIED REED CAGES:
There are many advantages to modifying Banshee reed cages. The most important is horsepower gains. Every motor requires a different reed tension and design combination.
Stock Banshee Reed Cage Mod's: We take the stock reed cage and first narrow the center divider to 4 mm wide. Next we bring it to a precise angle by putting a knife edge on it. Next we cut the reed opening back to 6.5mm from the center of the screw holes. On the inside of the cage we re angle the top and bottom to increase the flow. We do not widen the reed opening because it will make the reed fall in. It need support on the outside edge.
Next is the most critical part. The center divider that splits the cage top and bottom. By changing this angle you can alter the flow so it pushes the reed petal at different angles. A steeper angle will give more bottom response but affect flow at high engine speeds. A shallow angle will have less bottom end and create more flow at higher RPM's. This is the normal angle we use as the Banshee engine it a mid to top end engine.
Different reed thickness and tension. TDR designs its own reed material. For the Banshee we have 2 different tensions. Lower tension for stock motors and higher tension for mid to top end modified motors. The standard reed for this application is # 60M 1 petal design, .020" thick. This has been proven to be the best design.
